Jury Fee:  Early application Fee: $25 for the first submission. $10 for each additional artwork submitted.

Presenting a spectacular juried visual arts and film competition in Starved Rock Country, and an exciting weekend filled with art and music for all ages!

The Arts of Starved Rock Country Fund is proud to announce the Starved Rock Country Festival of the Arts - FOTA.  The 2021 Festival will be held in downtown Ottawa, Illinois September 24-26, 2021.

Artists and Filmmakers will be competing for cash prizes awarded by professional judges in each category.  Visual works of art will be displayed at Jeremiah Joe Coffee; live music throughout the event; kid-friendly activities; great shops and restaurants - you don't want to miss FOTA!

Artists are asked to submit work into the category they feel best represents their work, however, if the judges feel it would fit better in another category an email will be sent to the artist for them to review and confirm the category change.




Artist Statement

The application will automatically have a question for an artist's description of material and technique of up to 300 characters. You are encouraged to enter a description of material and technique that is concise and explains well the body of work. The first (up to) 300 characters of the submitted statement will be read aloud to the jury.


Digital Images

Up to five images can be submitted for each application. All images must be individual pieces of artwork. Images must represent the artist’s work that will be exhibited at the Starved Rock Country FOTA Show.

Submit your best works of art for the Juried Cash Prize Award. One piece of artwork may be chosen to move on to the final judging which will take place on Friday, September 24th. 

Image Specifications:

  • At least 1400 pixels on the longest edge

  • Under 4 MB

  • File types accepted: JPEG, JPG, PNG, TIFF, BMP

  • ​Between 72 and 300 dpi


Waiver of Liability

Artists are required to sign a Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement before artwork will be displayed.



Judging for cash prizes is scheduled for Friday, September 24th, 2021. The location for the artwork will be in downtown Ottawa. All final selected juried artwork must be hand delivered to the judging site no later than September 13th. 


Accepted Artists and special guests who have purchased VIP access to view the jury process are invited to a special Jury Viewing on Friday, September 24th, 2021. The jury viewing is an opportunity for artists to view their artwork at the same time and in the same manner, the jury will see them.  


Judges are invited from around the region to judge the first Starved Rock Country Festival of the Arts. Artistic excellence is the criteria for selecting the awards. A prize of $500 is awarded to one artist per category: Ceramics, Drawing, Fiber, Glass & Metalwork, Painting, Photography, 3D, 2D, Watercolor, and Wood. 

There will be one "Best in Show" prize of $1000


All prize money is subject to state and federal taxes.



Accepted Artists

All accepted artists will be notified on September 1, 2021. At this point, the artist may choose to pay for a vendor booth that will be presented along-side other artists. September 7, 2021 is the deadline to accept invitation, turn in waiver of liability , and pay booth fee. September 7, 2021 is also the deadline to cancel and receive NO REFUND.

Exhibition Space

Each artist will be provided a 10'x10’ space in Downtown Ottawa on the Jordan Block. Artists are to provide their own tent, weights (25lb per leg recommended), display table, chairs, easel, or staging for all pieces.  Artists are responsible for the setup and takedown of their artwork display. Artists may leave displays up throughout the entire event, however security is limited. Liability Insurance is not provided by the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation. As a result, artists must sign a waiver of liability.



$40 10'x10' exhibition space



Artists retain all revenue from the sale of their work. Starved Rock Country Community Foundation will not receive commission on sales. 7% of sales tax is due to the Illinois Department of Taxation. You will receive paperwork in your registration packet upon arrival.


  1. Artist must be 18 years old at the time of registration.

  2. When the artists registers, artwork must be entered in one of the ten major categories: Ceramics; Photography; Drawing 3D/ Sculpture, Mosaic; Fiber 2D/ Digital Art, Mixed Media, Printmaking, Mosaic; Glass & Metalwork; Watercolor; Painting; Wood.   3. All work must be original and made by the artist’s hands. 

  4. Artwork must be currently owned by the artist.

  5. Each entry must be classified as only one of the ten categories. 

  6. No size restrictions. Artist must provide exact measurements of artwork in Image Information.

  7. Artwork should be matted and framed and ready for hanging. We encourage plexiglass. Canvases should have finished edges. Artists will be directed to staging areas when they deliver their art.

  8. Each artist is responsible for getting their artwork to and from the site and all fees associated with transporting artwork are the responsibility of each artist.

  9. The art must be hand delivered to the judging site, Jeremiah Joe Coffee no later than September 13, 2021 .

  10. Artists may only show work in categories and body of work selected by the Jury. All work exhibited must be of the quality, category and body of work of that shown in the juried images.  

  11. If the artist chooses to have a booth the artist must be present for the festival. However, there are many events planned for not only the public to enjoy but also the participating artists such as workshops, demos, and educational opportunities. We would like you as the artist to be able to attend these events freely, however we do highly encourage you to be at your booth when not attending these events.

  12. No work may protrude outside of the artists booth space or inhibit a neighboring booth.

  13. This is a rain or shine event and no refunds will be given for cancellation due to weather. The decision to close the show due to weather is at the sole discretion of the Starved Rock Country FOTA staff.

  14. All prize money is subject to state and federal taxes.
