The Arts of Starved Rock Country Fund is proud to announce the Starved Rock Country Festival of the Arts - FOTA. The 2020 Festival will be held in downtown Ottawa, Illinois September 3-6, 2020.
Artists and Filmmakers will be competing for cash prizes awarded by professional judges in each category. Visual works of art will be displayed in public & private businesses throughout the Ottawa downtown and surrounding area; live music throughout the event; kid-friendly activities; great shops and restaurants - you don't want to miss FOTA!

Artists are asked to submit work into the category they feel best represents their work, however, if the judges feel it would fit better in another category an email will be sent to the artist for them to review and confirm the category change.
The application will automatically have a question for an artist's description of material and technique of up to 300 characters. You are encouraged to enter a description of material and technique that is concise and explains well the body of work. The first (up to) 300 characters of the submitted statement will be read aloud to the jury.
Up to five images can be submitted for each application. All images must be individual pieces of artwork. Images must represent the artist’s work that will be exhibited at the Starved Rock Country FOTA Show.
Submit your best works of art for the Juried Cash Prize Award. One piece of artwork may be chosen to move on to the final judging which will take place on Friday, September 4th.

Artists are required to show proof of property insurance, naming Starved Rock Country Community Foundation as an additional insured. For those without policies, short-term event policies can be purchased from several vendors which Starved Rock Country Community Foundation will share with accepted artists. Artists must provide their own property insurance and turn in proof of documentation on August 1, 2020.
PRIZE AWARDS AND JUDGES
Judging for cash prizes is scheduled for Friday, September 4th, 2020. The location for the artwork will be in downtown Ottawa. All final selected juried artwork must be hand delivered to the judging location on Monday, August 24th between 10am-6pm.
Accepted Artists and special guests who have purchased VIP access to view the jury process are invited to a special Jury Viewing on Friday, September 4th, 2020. The jury viewing is an opportunity for artists to view their artwork at the same time and in the same manner, the jury will see them.
Judges are invited from around the region to judge the first Starved Rock Country Festival of the Arts. Artistic excellence is the criteria for selecting the awards. A prize of $1,000 is awarded to one artist per category: Ceramics, Drawing, Fiber, Glass & Metalwork, Painting, Photography, 3D, 2D, Watercolor, and Wood.
All prize money is subject to state and federal taxes.
All accepted artists will be notified on July 1, 2020. At this point, the artist may choose to pay for a vendor booth that will be presented along-side other artists under one large tent. August 1, 2020 is the deadline to accept invitation, turn in liability insurance, and pay booth fee. August 1, 2020 is also the deadline to cancel and receive NO REFUND.
Each artist will be provided a 6’x6’ space along the Jordan Block of Downtown Ottawa under one large tent provided by the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation FOTA Show Event. Artists are to provide their own display table, chairs, easel, or staging for all pieces. DO NOT bring professional/ any grade of tent to this event, the artist will not be permitted to set up their own tent. Artists are responsible for the setup and takedown of their artwork display. Artists may leave displays up throughout the entire event, however security is limited. Liability Insurance is not provided by the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation. As a result, artists must provide their own property insurance and turn in proof of documentation on August 1, 2020.
$40 6’x6’ exhibition space
Artists retain all revenue from the sale of their work. Starved Rock Country Community Foundation will not receive commission on sales. 6.3% of sales tax is due to the Illinois Department of Taxation. You will receive paperwork in your registration packet upon arrival.
Artist must be 18 years old at the time of registration.
When the artists registers, artwork must be entered in one of the ten major categories: Ceramics; Photography; Drawing 3D/ Sculpture, Mosaic; Fiber 2D/ Digital Art, Mixed Media, Printmaking, Mosaic; Glass & Metalwork; Watercolor; Painting; Wood. All work must be original and made by the artist’s hands.
Artwork must be currently owned by the artist.
Each entry must be classified as only one of the ten categories.
No size restrictions. Artist must provide exact measurements of artwork in Image Information.
Artwork should be matted and framed and ready for hanging. We encourage plexiglass. Canvases should have finished edges. Artists will be directed to staging areas when they deliver their art.
Each artist is responsible for getting their artwork to and from the site and all fees associated with transporting artwork are the responsibility of each artist.
The art must be hand delivered to the judging site, on August 24th between 10am-6pm.
Artists may only show work in categories and body of work selected by the Jury. All work exhibited must be of the quality, category and body of work of that shown in the juried images.
If the artist chooses to have a booth the artist must be present for the festival. However, there are many events planned for not only the public to enjoy but also the participating artists such as workshops, demos, and educational opportunities. We would like you as the artist to be able to attend these events freely, however we do highly encourage you to be at your booth when not attending these events.
No work may protrude outside of the artists booth space or inhibit a neighboring booth.
Original work must comprise 75% of your booth, and only original work is permitted to be displayed on easels.
Reproductions must be clearly labeled as reproductions and numbered in a limited edition. Reproductions on paper must be matted.
Digital Art, Printmaking and Photography: original work must be done in limited editions, numbers, and signed.
Artists that win in any category are ineligible to enter the following year.
This is a rain or shine event and no refunds will be given for cancellation due to weather. The decision to close the show due to weather is at the sole discretion of the Starved Rock Country FOTA staff.
